Being a mother to Twins can be quite challenging. It is big learning curve, everyday is different and it is most certainly a lifestyle change.
There are many resources out there to help you along the way, however you will have your good days, and you will have some more challenging days. Try to remember to take one day at a time and the rewards will outweigh the more challenging days.
Your babies will always love you and they will always be able to put a smile on your face so don’t be too hard on yourself.
When my twins were born I was living on the other side of the world away from all of my family and friends, which meant I was on my own with only the help of my husband, when he was not working, to take care of our twin sons. It can be a little scary as a new mother to realize that you are about to become the mother of not one baby but two babies at the same time.
You must have faith in yourself and trust your instincts as a mother or father to make the right choices for your babies and for yourself.
My twin boys are now 6 years old and during my journey as being a mother of twins I have learnt many new things along the way, both about being a mother and about myself. I did everything I could to educate myself about raising twins which included reading books, doing research online, speaking with other mothers of twins or, talking with family and friends and just trusting my instincts to make the right choices.
Once we were settled into a routine I started to reach out to other mothers of twins through twins clubs which was a great support to me. Having someone to talk to who is in the same situation as you is a great sounding board to talk through your challenges and swap ideas with what is working and what is not working.
I started to go out on walks with my twins to get out of the house, get some exercise and fresh air. This also helped me drop the baby weight, feel better about myself and give me more energy. My twins enjoyed going out for walks and most times were very quiet or just went to sleep in the stroller. It was some much needed relaxation time for both the twins and myself and a great way to reduce stress.
Having two babies at the same time is hard work and I want to share my experiences to help other families benefit from what I have learnt. I hope to make the day to day life of having twins just a little bit easier and a little less stressful. I also hope to save you money when you are making those big purchases for your family by sharing my experiences and recommendations on what worked for us.
As a mother of twins keeping your babies on a twins schedule, eating well, exercising and taking some time for yourself is extremely important.
I don’t think you can ever be fully prepared for having twins but by taking one day at a time and doing some preparation it will defiantly make the days ahead easier for you and your family.
Whether you are a mother of one baby, twins, or more, being a mother is not easy and it will most certainly be a lifestyle change. Becoming a mother is a big learning curve and every day is different. There are many resources out there to help you along the way, but you will have your good days, and you will have some more challenging days.
